The Descent
A somatic, mythic, and herbal exploration of the dark season; a sacred circle for entering the underworld in stories and in the psyche, and listening to the wisdom that lives there - through plant allies, embodied practice, and the symbols that connect the inner world with the world around us.

What is this?
The Descent is a ritual, an experience, and an opportunity to connect to nature, to listen to the teachings of the season, to breathe, to be with each other, to honor this moment, and to receive guidance from plants, from mythology, from the body, and from the Muse.
It’s an invitation to gather your strength and root into your power as you move deeper into the season of death and decay.
This phase of Fall teaches us how to release and shed, how to decompose, and how to become more whole by allowing ourselves to break open. It is deeply associated with an underworld journey - a call to face fears, to increase our awareness of the unconscious, and to reclaim our shadow. This sacred circle guides us into this deep seasonal work.
On this darkening Autumn afternoon, out in nature with the trees, in community with one another, we’ll gather with plants, archetypes, and symbols, listen to their messages, and breathe with the wisdom that they share.

Is This For You?
The Descent is for those who seek a deeper conversation about life, about death, about the world, about who we are, and where we are.
This journey is for those who want to cultivate a deeper relationship with nature, and with the cycles of death and rebirth woven into every part of existence.
This ritual is for you if you are craving a sacred container for your shadow, for grief, and for the aspects of life that are more difficult to be with.
Come explore the space where intuition and imagination meet, listen for the wisdom that lives within you and in nature, and make room for the unknown.
What Are We Doing?
Ritual
We will gather around an herbal infusion that is made of Egyptian Blue Lotus - a plant with rich historical, cultural, and symbolic association (this plant is both powerful, gentle, and legal). Through tea meditation, we’ll explore the relationship between plants, intuition, and the imagination, and listen to the wisdom that arises.
Storytelling
We will explore the Myth of Inanna - Sumerian goddess of Heaven and Earth - and her sister, Ereshkigal; goddess of the Underworld. The story is ancient and relevant. It lives in our psyche. It lives in our breath. It lives in the world around us - naturally and culturally. Mythology is magical because it offers us the opportunity to learn about ourselves through characters and stories that are as personal as they are collective, as private as they are of all people.
Walking Meditation
The mythic journey will accompany us on a gentle walk through Franklin Canyon, filled with pauses to connect with plants, and for embodied practices; yoga-based movement, poses, and breathwork. The trees and the plants will be our guides on this walking meditation and inner exploration.
This is not a call to believe in anything - it’s an invitation to open ourselves up in a playful way, to dance with imagination, inspiration, and intuition, to play with the spirit of plants, to move our bodies and breathe with nature’s gifts, and to let the poetic, mythic language of the soul speak to us.

Autumn's Guidance
Deep listening to your inner wisdom and to the wisdom of the season. Allowing the darkness of this phase of Autumn - a phase of death, decay, and dissolution - to be sacred and to bring us deeper into life's power.
Plant Council
Deeper relationship with plants as allies, teachers, and guides. Time to listen, to open up to, and to be with the wisdom of plants, giving yourself space to hear and to feel the spirit of the earth and what it has to share with you.
Embodiment
Embodied practices that support us in connecting with nature, in creating boundaries, and in weaving the insights we receive into our lives.

A container for transformation, integration, and reclamation. This is a somatic altar for the magic of the season, calling us into the shadow, into the unconscious, into where we weave the wisdom and wonder hidden in the dark.
