When the full moon in Aries arrives, we spark renewal in a season of endings. That’s a Northern Hemisphere perspective, of course. But how do we spark something new, how do we bring renewal, how do we revive things when we feel like we’ve lost our spark?
A process of ending still needs a zest. Its vibe is more goth and less sunshine, but there’s nothing more rare and magical than a black unicorn. The zest might feel like a cloudy day, or a gloomy, dark rose, or a black lace dress, or black lipstick when you go pick your kids up at school, or a skull candle holder with a raven on top.
You might need to let your body rest. Now that’s an idea – if that’s not a fresh start to our culture, I don’t know what is.
Go on walk under the full moon tonight, put your headphones on, and listen to this talk about the Aries Full Moon. Or put this video on, sip on some tea, have your journal with you, and let this archetypal alchemy video with the Aries archetype spark something in you.
Every new and full moon, I send messages to my magical mailing list. I also send other mythic musings, helpful teachings from the yoga tradition for these complicated times, and little practices to keep you sane as the word falls apart.
Here’s a little piece from this full moon’s message:
“The archetype of Aries is feisty and fast. It wants to start but not necessarily to continue. It wants to flirt but not let it go anywhere. It wants to launch itself into something new without thinking of the consequences. It wants to take action without care for results.
The important thing about archetypes is that none of them is a solo player in the garden of the self. We have many parts, many sides, many aspects. So receive from Aries the pieces that feel helpful right now, and weave them into the wonderful wider fabric of who you are.
Aries is a sign associated with the self. It’s the first sign. It’s when an individual realizes they are their own person. There’s autonomy and power and courage in this archetypal play. It’s the part of us that is self oriented. And while our culture has taken this self oriented thing a bit too far, we still need this part. We need to keep it in check, not discard it. Individuation is important. It’s just not the only important thing. It needs to be put in relationship (hi Libra!). It needs to be contextualized.”
To ritualize this moment – not just this full moon, but this whole first phase of Fall – the Autumn Equinox Somatic Ceremony is here to support you. It’s filled with practices, embodied ritual, storytelling, meditation, breath work, and prompts. Get it here.
