The Day After The Full Moon In Sagittarius

When you pay close attention to the moon, do you also notice what happens when the fullness passes? Today, the day after the full moon in Sagittarius, when Capricorn catches the moon in its horns, do you feel the tug, the pull of the thread, the unraveling, the transition from one phase to another? Or is it a seamless becoming and unbecoming? Do you make space for the feelings, for the thoughts, for the insights that flow through you as the glow softens and the dark night sky begins to bite pieces of light off the moon?

The bow and arrow of the Centaur aims at vistas of vastness and broad perspectives, at an ever deepening wisdom, at the wild ways of the heart, and at an ever growing sophistication. The full moon in Sagittarius invites us to gallop with this part horse, part human, into expansive exploration, a gathering of knowledge, and an adventure of a lifetime.

Still in the glow of yesterday’s moon fullness, what are some insights you’ve been gathering through the broadening of your mind?

As humans, we are never not animals, and yet there are things that distinguish, things that differentiate us. When we find ourselves in the body of the Centaur, we can breathe into our more than human beingness. Here we can remember that we are never just one thing, that we are many beings. We bring in other particles of creation with every inhalation. We receive the creation of plants as we let air flow into our lungs. And our complexity touches the world and commingles with our surroundings, allowing the flavor of who we are to touch and to mix with many other things.

Sagittarius inspires the instinctive, untamed creature self to remember that it is inseparable from the cognitive, cerebral, deep thinking self. Remembering that we are not separate from nature, not separate from other things, from other beings, is necessary for our personal and collective well being – because the well being of the individual and that of the ecosystem of which we are a part, are never separate.

In what ways could this remembering become woven into habits and patterns in your mind and in your life?

When the fullness of the moon begins to release itself, we remember that the moon is never not full. We see it phasing because of where we are, but the moon is still the moon, and it is always whole. And yet the phases are real, and they affect the water on the planet, and we’re about 70% water, just like the earth, and we’re taken by the moon through the liquidity of our experience.

Both things are true – the moon is always full, and the moon is always phasing. The moon is more than one thing. And so are you.

When the moon is full in Sagittarius, the sun is dancing with Gemini. The fire of philosophy is fed by the air of communication. The spirit of travel is breathed into by the magic of muse. The slow wisdom of the dark season comes to visit the swift wit of growing light, and ignite a deep conversation with a fast moving energy that’s hard to pin down. As fullness begins to wane today, and Capricorn emerges out of Sagittarius, the perseverance and patience of this archetype add more layers to the conversation.

The world needs deep wisdom right now. We are witnessing fascism forming right in front of our eyes, on the 101, in downtown. We are watching the collapse, feeling the decline, hearing the echoes of ancestors warning us. This is not a lighthearted Spring, or an ease filled transition into Summer. This is serious business. And Sagittarius has a great sense of humor while showing up as our guide through the darkness. As her hooves transition from horse to mountain goat, she calls us into greater depths.

She knows how to find her way in the dark. She has inner vision, and her animal nature is alive. She’s ready for us when we are. And while there’s urgency to the situation we’re in, she doesn’t rush us. She can spend plenty of time aiming, setting the shot, prepping for whatever needs to be made. She spends time planning the next leap as she moves through the difficult terrain, reaching for the summit.

The moon begins to undress, her radiant gown slowly falls off, while the light of the sun grows in power, heading toward the Solstice. Identities of darkness and light, of filling and emptying, of animal and human, of personal and collective, commingle and collaborate as we move between converging pathways, continuously transitioning, becoming, unfolding, unraveling.

We are part of the landscape. We’re part of each other.  And we’re also distinct. Differentiated. Unmistakingly who we are. Yet ever changing. Nothing is set in stone. Anything that is, still changes its shape over time.

So as we move into this waning moon time, we can receive ambiguity as a gift, the ability to hold opposing truths as a strengthening muscle, and allow the transitional, interstitial spaces in our character to usher us into who we continue to become.

What parts of you, what areas in your life, what relationships, what conversations, are you willing to move deeper into as this lunar cycle begins to wane?
