Full Moon in Taurus & Scorpio Season: An Embodied Journey to the Underworld

Animal skulls surrounded by yellow and white wildflowers, ivy, and dark foliage, evoking the cycles of death and aliveness under the Full Moon in Taurus.

The full moon in Taurus arrives right as the season of Scorpio begins, spinning us into the beauty of life and its inevitable partner, death. It calls us into the magic of cow goddesses and bull gods that ancient civilizations developed mythology and ritual around. It asks us to dance with decay and desire in a deeply contemplative and wildly embodied way.

The Archetypes of the Full Moon in Taurus

Scorpio is the zodiac sign that anchors us in Fall (in the Northern Hemisphere). It carries us into the depths of being. It orients us toward the shadow so that the hidden, unprocessed, unaccepted parts of ourselves can be seen and integrated. It screams into the darkness of the night; sometimes from pleasure, other times in pain. Sometimes it roars to release and rewild its spirit-somatic skin, unraveling with the ferocity of life and death. It tears apart anything that seems inauthentic. It wanders in the dark forest of our sensual soulfulness and casts a spell of transformation. The underworld is its home.

Taurus is a lover. Earthy. Sensual. Poised for pleasure. The Zodiac sign that ushers us into the peak of Spring (in the Northern Hemisphere) is ready to enjoy life. Taurus slows down our movement so that we can relish the flavors of life. It sings with the bees and blesses the blossoms into being. It pours honey on a lover to slowly lick it. It invites us to take off our clothes and cover the body in rose petals and lie on the earth, soil to skin, giving into the wonders of life through the body. Home is where the body finds comfort and pleasure.

The Somatic Spell of the Scorpio Archetype and the Taurus Archetype

The gift of being embodied is cyclical. We are filled with aliveness, continuously dissolving, creative and destructive in ways that are woven together. We die and rebirth ourselves many times in this lifetime. We renew who we are and rise into form as we shed skins and lose our old ways.

The Scorpio archetype is alchemical and ferocious. It teaches us to decompose, to die, to decay, and make it sensual, sexy, seductive. The Taurus archetype is breathing the body with the body of the earth, calling us into the delights and the beauty of physical beingness.

The Invitation of this Full Moon in Taurus

This full moon in Taurus bathes us in the sensual liquidity of both archetypes – each with its own body offering itself on the altar of life and death – pouring and oozing and flowing through our thoughts, our feelings, our sensations, our breath.

Venus is still in retrograde; the goddess of beauty and eros and love and lust is in the underworld, doing deep work, soul work, art work. She breathes with bones and paints with ashes, dances in decay, and shares a meal with the shadow, claiming it as her own, creating who she is, who she is becoming with the darkness that becomes her love song.

As we turn our faces up toward the fullness of the moon, we see the shadow of Venus, of Aphrodite, of Ishtar, of Innana, of Hathor, of all the versions of this goddess of fertility and fierce fecundity, smiling at us in her lunar way, waving at us from the underworld in the night sky.

This full moon activates the alchemy of Autumn, initiating us, if we choose to turn toward it, into a deep journey of somatic soulfulness, into sensual spells that strengthen us as we shed and reclaim, release and receive, decompose and devour, melt and make magic that moves life into the depths of us – personally, collectively, privately, collaboratively, earthly, cosmically.
